Dr. Robert Solow first found his way to Southern California as a college student and is happy to be here. Born in the Bronx, New York, and educated in the state of Michigan, his first introduction to California came as a result of a New Year’s Day bowl game. Obviously, it made a lasting impression. After completing college at the University of Michigan, a brief stint as a chemical engineer in Ohio and finally, dental school at the University of Detroit, he returned to California permanently and never turned back. He has two children (Ryan and Kim) who have not forgiven him for threatening to replace them with a set of llamas when each left for college. Dr. Solow’s sense of humor is reflected in the name of their pet dog, NOLY (No One Likes You), a tongue-in-cheek reference the nickname his daughter once gave him. His light-hearted, approachable manner is shared daily with staff and patients alike.
Dr. Solow enjoys bike riding, hiking and alpine skiing. He is an avid sports fan (which drives his wife nuts.) He and his wife are concert enthusiasts, attending 20 to 30 concerts annually. Over the past few years he has seen most of the major performers at least once and there are many he would love to see again…Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney. And just a few that he feels he has missed. There’s a prize if you can guess the half a dozen on his short list.
Remaining true to his engineering roots, Dr. Solow enthusiastically embraces new technology. His latest addition is “one appointment dentistry”, made possible through the use of a computer-driven dental system (CEREC), which fabricates porcelain crowns, inlays, onlays and even veneers.
Dr. Solow’s staff takes pride in communicating with patients and developing strong relationships, which maximizes dental health and treatment results.
The All-on-4® procedure, which uses strategically placed dental implants to support a complete, fixed arch restoration, could be an excellent solution for you. With All-on-4®, the oral surgeon extracts the teeth and places four or more implants in each dental arch at specific locations and angles. These implants anchor the full set of replacement teeth that Dr. Solow places during this surgical procedure.
CEREC dentistry is completed in a single, two hour office visit without messy impressions or the inconvenience of temporary crowns. Digitally produced “teeth” are remarkably accurate in every respect, frequently more so than hand fabricated crowns. The restorations, of course, offer great fit, comfort and function.
Veneers and crowns are crafted from tooth-colored porcelain. But where a veneer is applied only to the front surface of the tooth, a crown fits over the entire surface of the damaged tooth, providing both cosmetic and restorative benefits.
Dr. Robert Solow can often repair the tooth with a filling, dental bonding or porcelain veneer. But when none of these methods is effective, a dental crown – also known as a cap – is the best alternative.
Gum recontouring is a short, safe, and comfortable procedure, most often performed on front teeth. Using a mild anesthetic, a soft-tissue diode laser is then used to gently remove excessive tissue while re-sculpting the gum line. Stitches are not required since laser sculpting does not create bleeding
The laser immediately seals the newly sculpted tissue, eliminating the need for sutures and at the same time, killing any bacteria present. While the gums may be slightly swollen or tender for up to a week, most patients leave our office and return to their daily activities immediately,
All of us (even those who brush and floss obsessively) have bacteria that live in the mouth and said bacteria combines with food particles to form “plaque,” a film on the surface of the teeth. Plaque ignored can develop into deposits (“tartar”) that harden above and below the gum line potentially causing the loss of supporting structures leading to eventual tooth loss.
Your hygienist is diligently removing plaque both above and below the gumline, polishing those clean teeth, recording the depth of the spaces between teeth and gums or pocket depth, an assessment of periodontal health, (and finally) taking necessary x-rays.
Evening Dental Cleaning and Examination Appointments in Woodland Hills
We are serious about clean teeth. Our evening dental cleaning and examination appointments are one full hour long. This extra time allows our experienced dental hygienists to review your medical history and identify issues that may impact your dental health. There is time to assess periodontal health as well. It’s a personal visit, with a personal approach intended to address your personal concerns. Questions? We welcome and encourage them. Our cleaning visits are much more than a quick polish to remove your coffee stains. (Although we do that, too.)
Invisalign® uses no metal, brackets or wires. Dr. Solow creates a series of clear, customized plastic aligners that patients wear every day. These thin, transparent aligners conform to the teeth and are nearly unnoticeable.
The procedure to relieve pain is called a root canal. Very simply, eliminating the inflamed nerve from the tooth canal (“root canal”) usually eliminates the severe pain and begins the process of healing. Using a dental anesthetic to keep you comfortable, Dr. Solow will remove the tooth nerves, clean, shape and then fill the open canals. The procedure can be performed by drilling through an existing crown followed by a “filling” to the crown so further restorative treatment may not be necessary. If a natural tooth is involved, removing the tooth root (s) will tend to make the tooth more brittle, and placement of a crown will required in a follow-up appointment.
Before fitting you with the appliance, an in-home sleep test is conducted and reviewed by a sleep-certified physician. Once you begin using the device, we will monitor its effectiveness and order periodic home sleep tests to make sure that you experience the most successful outcome possible.
Typically, patients feel more energetic, healthier and more positive after using the device on a regular basis. Oftentimes, they find it easier to lose weight as well. Considering that sleep apnea reduces oxygen to different parts of the body, potentially leading to strokes, heart attacks or impaired brain function, a convenient, a non-intrusive solution such as the Dr. Solow dental device can be powerfully life-changing.
The first step is a consultation to give you an opportunity to meet with Dr. Solow to describe your cosmetic goals and discuss the end results you hope to achieve. Dr. Solow will explain the feasibility of designing that new smile, take x-rays, or make study models, if needed. He will consider a variety of factors–the length of each tooth, texture, proportion, alignment and spacing, color, and even missing teeth in crafting your new look. And the best part is that your input is a major factor in your treatment.
